ALIZZ ISLAMIC BANK EXTENDS SUPPORT TO ARAB INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT
As part of its support to various social activities, Alizz Islamic Bank recently extended its support to the sixth Arab International Conference for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect recently held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The conference was held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences. The International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) hosted the conference in close cooperation with the Sultan Qaboos University, Ministry of Social Development, Children First Association and the United Nations Children’s Fund in Oman (UNICEF).
The conference aimed to provide a platform for a global perspective on scientific research, share best practices and innovations on the prevention of child abuse. Organisers were keen to involve participations from all relevant sectors. Special workshops were organised for parents as well as for youth. As part of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Oman also launched the wonderful initiative of Child Protection Ambassadors programme.
The first day of the conference included presentation of a number of working papers such as “Manifestations of bullying among first year students of basic education from the point of view of teachers", and "A proposed concept to protect children from bullying in the light of technological era, internet and social media.”
Strategies for ending violence against children, bullying prevention practices in schools, national legislation in the field of child protection in the Sultanate, the rights of the child between literary treatment and media deliberation, psychological and social characteristics of children exposed to sexual abuse were among topics and themes discussed.
Commenting on the support extended to the conference, Aisha Al Kharusi, Assistant General Manager and Head of Strategy and CSR at Alizz Islamic Bank said, “Such conferences guide and recommend the necessary steps to protect children.
